How much does a shipping container cost?

The advertised container price is only one part of the budget. A useful estimate includes the unit, delivery equipment and distance, taxes, access complications, site preparation, permits, locks, and modifications.

Current XIVstorage pricing

Live prices are always on the product pages — as of this update, our 10-unit launch catalog runs from $1,950 (20 ft WWT) to $5,550 (20 ft open-side one-trip), with $440 flat tilt-bed delivery per container to eligible contiguous-U.S. addresses. See current inventory for today's numbers; this article does not override the product page.

What changes the base price

  • Size: 40 ft units cost more in total but usually less per cubic foot than 20 ft units.
  • Grade: one-trip commands a premium over cargo-worthy, which commands a premium over WWT. Compare grades.
  • Configuration: double-door and open-side units cost more than standard-door equivalents.
  • Market timing and origin: availability at the origin yard moves prices.

Delivery

Our rate is a flat $440 per container to eligible addresses. Elsewhere in the market, quotes vary with distance and equipment — always confirm the delivered total, not just the box price.

Costs buyers forget

  • Site preparation: leveling, gravel, blocks or piers
  • Permits where required — check local rules
  • Locks and security hardware
  • Modifications: vents, windows, doors, paint, electrical
  • Return-risk costs: return freight and a restocking fee if you change your mind after delivery — read the return policy first

Example budgets (illustrative, not quotes)

A 20 ft WWT for farm storage might total unit + $440 delivery + basic blocking. A 40 ft high-cube one-trip conversion shell might add site work, permits, and modification costs that exceed the container price itself. Get a written quote for your ZIP before committing.
